ABOUT US: History
Grupo Guayacan, Inc., was created in 1996 through a unique collaboration between the public and private sectors in Puerto Rico and was empowered with two principal mandates. First, to introduce and provide an attractive means of access to global private equity as a viable asset class for institutional investors on the island and second, to foster, promote and develop the private equity markets and entrepreneurship within Puerto Rico itself.
Guayacan Fund of Funds L.P. was created and raised $55 million in 1996 to be invested in a diversified group of private equity funds using a Fund of Funds investment strategy. The success of the first fund led to the creation of a second - Guayacan Fund of Funds II L.P. in 1999 raising a total of $62 million. Guayacan Fund of Funds III, L.P. was raised in 2007, a strong signal of Grupo Guayacan's committment of providing local institutional investors with access to the largest and most important funds in the private equity asset class.
The next stage
In executing the second part of its mandate, Grupo Guayacan created the Puerto Rico Venture Forum, which held its first Annual Venture Conference in January of 2000 and completed its 8th straight conference in December 2007. Over the years the Conference has provided the pre-eminent event in Puerto Rico for entrepreneurs and investors to come together and explore opportunities.
Through its four principal initiatives, Guayacan Fund of Funds, The Puerto Rico Venture Forum, The Guayacan Center for Global Entrepreneurship and Private Equity, and EnterPRize: A Business Plan Competition, Grupo Guayacan intends to be the leading force in fostering high growth entrepreneurship with the support of a vibrant private equity market.
